596,578. Electric hot - plates. JENKINS, F. J. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 19391. [Classes 39 (iii) and 126] [Also in Group VI] Openings in a table top 10 or the like receive a plurality of electric heating units and a centrally disposed electric cooking unit mounted respectively on cross-bars 12 and longitudinal bars 13 secured to the underside of the table top 10 or the like. In an example, each unit comprises a hot-plate 16 secured to channel members 14 carried on the bars 12. An electric heating resistance 20, mica sheets 18, 19 and an asbestos layer 21 are clamped to the plate 16 by a clamping plate 17 fixed by pins 22 inserted in the members 14. Each unit is surrounded by an insulating annulus 50 supported on a ledge 51, and has a switch 24 for disconnecting part of the resistance 20. The cooking unit comprises a hot-plate 32 with flanges 33 and an electric heating assembly similar to that of the heating units but in which the clamping plate is screwed to the plate 32. The cooking unit is secured to the bars 13 by two pairs of lazy-tong arms 43, an arm of each pair engaging ratchet teeth 47 on the underside of the plate 32. Handles 491 for lifting the unit and switches 40 are carried on the flange 33. The unit is covered by a plate 11 when not in use.
