[Class 143] [Also in Group XIX] Articles, such as cartridges, which have passed through a linear-dimension gauging machine (see Group XIX) are fed to a weighing apparatus which sorts them into two groups depending upon whether each is or is not below a standard weight. The cartridges are delivered to a hopper having at its base a feeding wheel 113 which feeds them one by one to trays 115 on arms 96 on a rotary table 95. The feeding wheel 113 is operated by cams on table 95 which rock a lever 124 to reciprocate a slide 126 carrying a pawl 127 which drives the feeding wheel as a tray 115 passes beneath the hopper. The lever 124 is in two parts connected by a spring which allows relative movement if a cartridge jams in the feeding wheel, this movement opening the circuit of a driving motor. The ends of the arms 96 engage a fixed cam 119 to keep the trays 115 lowered while receiving a cartridge. If the cartridge is not below the standard weight, the tray remains lowered when the end of the arm leaves the cam 119 and the cartridge is later deflected by a fixed stop into a hopper. If the cartridge is too light the arm 96 rocks clockwise to elevate the tray 115 so that the cartridge meets another stop and is directed into another hopper.
