Abstract
596,078. Pulse modulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 17, 1945, No. 18343. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] For demodulating time-modulated pulses, means are provided for controlling, in accordance with the time interval between the pulses, the amplitude of voltage waves having recurring inclined portions, for example saw-tooth waves, and for clipping the waves at a predetermined level. The condenser 26 is charged through resistances 25, 34 in the intervals between pulses and discharged, when a pulse occurs, through valve 20, to the biassed-back grid of which the positive-going pulses are applied to render it conducting. The peaks of the output voltage across resistance 34 are clipped by diode 30 and appear across resistance 33, whence they are fed through a low-pass filter to the signal reproducer. The clipping level, which may be set by the adjustable resistance 34, may be the peak voltage of the output wave from 34 in the absence of modulation on the pulses.
