Abstract
595,470. Drawing. CHOUSTOFF, E. April 12, 1945, Nos. 9192, 9193 and 9194. Convention dates, April 18, 1944, March 20, 1945, and March 21, 1945. [Class 83 (iv)] In hydraulically actuated tube drawing apparatus tubes are fed laterally from a stack 12 to rollers 17 and by rollers C to mandrels 4 on a carrier B rotated to align them with a draw bench D. Oscillation of a hinged bottom of the stack 12 by a fluid cylinder 42, Fig. 4, (not shown), delivers a tube to a carrier intermittently rotated by a fluid cylinder 41 to deliver a tube to rollers 17. The end of the tube is engaged between rolls, Fig. 7 (not shown), rotated by an electromotor and a roller moved laterally by a fluid cylinder 22 and fed through guide rollers to mandrels 4 secured to a plate 2a of carrier B. Intermittent rotation of the carrier effected by a rack actuated by a fluid cylinder 46, Fig. 3 (not shown), aligns the mandrel with the draw bench D and the tube is threaded in the die by axial movement of the mandrels by fluid cylinders 10. The clamp jaws and the chain hook are actuated in succession by fluid pressure mechanism, Fig. 20. Wedge jaws 203 on the draw carriage are closed by a cylinder 207 energized from a pipe 210. Pressure to a fluid cylinder 216 actuating the chain hook is cut-off by a valve 214 until pressure leaks through a valve 212 to displace the valve. Pressure to the pipe 210 is controlled by the draw carriage. A motor 27 drives a pump 28 supplying a tank 37. Excess pressure operates a valve 33 exhausting to a tank 29. The fluid cylinders are controlled by valves 26 actuated by cam on a drum 25. The drum contact 25a closes circuit of a motor M for returning the draw carriage and other contacts actuate the appropriate valves in succession. In a modification two tubes are fed simultaneously to the carrier. Lubricating dies and work.-The carrier 13, Fig. 14 (not shown), carries radial pumps, each with a screwed spindle engaging a nut operated by ratchet from a fixed abutment. On each rotation of the carrier the pump ejects oil to the mandrel head.
