Abstract
595,256. Electron image tubes. FARNSWORTH TELEVISION & RADIO CORPORATION. Sept. 13, 1944, No. 17539. Convention date, June 5, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] A television image analysing tube comprises a spherically-shaped wall 13, Fig. 2, coated interiorly with a light-reflecting layer 21, an opposite wall 36 shaped so as to act as a correcting lens, a spherically-shaped photo-electric electrode 39 disposed between the said walls and facing the reflecting layer 21, and electronic apparatus 43-46 in the stem portion 12 cooperating with the photo-electric electrode 39. The device may be an image dissector as in Fig. 1 (not shown), where an electron multiplier co-operates with a photo-electric cathode, or an iconoscope or orthicon, Fig. 2, in which case an electron gun 43-46 co-operates with a mosaic electrode 39. The photo-electric electrode may be supported by a flanged glass or ceramic tube mounted in a central opening in the wall 36, Fig. 1 (not shown), or by a spider-like structure formed of wires 37, 38, Fig. 2. The reflecting layer 21 may be of gold or silver. Electromagnetic and/or electrostatic scanning and focusing may be used.
