Abstract

595,028. Sterilizing - containers for hypodermic needles. BORGEAT, D. June 4, 1945, No. 14018. [Class 81 (i)] A device for holding hypodermic needles comprises a receptacle adapted to contain fluid, a needle deck slidably mounted in the receptacle to support the needles with their points in space, a rod extruding through the receptacle, a guide tube for the rod and a spring on the rod for urging the deck upwardly. In Fig. 5, the receptacle B is provided with a screw cap 67 with a gasket 68, the cap having apertures 70 enabling access to the interior of the vessel by boiling sterilizing fluid when the cap is only partly unscrewed. The underside of gasket 68 may be provided with projections, thereby forming channels through which the liquid may circulate. The needle deck 48, which is formed with peripheral notches to allow circulation of the sterilizing fluid, is slidably mounted on a rod 51 of square cross-section and is supported on and urged upwardly by spring 53. The rod is mounted in guide tube 54, its movement being limited by the engagement of a pin 56 in slot 55. A second spring 60 serves to lift the rod well above the surface of the deck. The deck may be locked in the vessel by the engagement of bayonet slots 64 with projections 65. In another construction, the rod is secured to the needle rack, and no spring corresponding to spring 60 is present. In a further construction, the rod is circular and slidably mounted in the deck, but is formed with a notch adapted to engage a projection in the bore of the deck, whereby the latter may be lifted. Fig. 11 shows a deck for holding double-ended needles, the enlargements thereof being disposed in sockets 89 in plates 85, the sockets communicating with the periphery of the plates by slots. The lower plate is force fitted on the shaft and a spring 90 is disposed between it and the upper slidable plate'. A length of tubing 93 acts as a spacer between the deck and the screw cap.
