Abstract
5 9 4, 2 3 4. Mixing fluids in flow. RITTER CO., Inc. Feb. 6, 1945, No. 3022. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1944. [Class 86] A device for mixing a liquid under pressure with a further liquid comprises a container having a piston movable therein so as to divide the container into two separate compartments each variable in capacity in mutually opposite sense, a first valve means for connecting the first compartment alternatively to a supply of the pressure liquid or to waste, a second valve means for alternatively closing or opening a connection between the second compartment and a supply of the further liquid and a mixing chamber connected directly with the source of pressure liquid and by way of a non-return valve with the second compartment. The two valve means are interconnected for operation by a common handle whereby in one operative position the first compartment is connected to waste and the second compartment is connected with the further liquid supply and filled therewith, and in another operative position the second compartment is cut off from the further liquid supply and the first compartment is connected with the pressure liquid supply to cause the further liquid to be expelled from the second compartment through the non-return valve to the mixing chamber. A cylindrical chamber 10 is divided into two compartments 29, 51 by a piston 18 slidable on a rod 16. A valve 60 connects the compartment 51, either through a port 61 and a tube 53 with a supply of water under pressure for raising the piston 18, or to waste through a further valve port and a discharge pipe 59. A second valve 73 is adapted either to connect the compartment 29 with an air vent 72 and a spout 70 supplied with antiseptic solution, or to close these connections. The valves 60. 73 are coupled by a shaft 66 for operation by a common handle 82, in one position of which the compartment 51 is connected to waste and the compartment 29 is filled with antiseptic solution. In a second operative position of the handle 82, the valve 73 is closed and the compartment 51 is connected through the valve 60 to the water supply whereby the piston 18 is raised. Antiseptic solution is then expelled from the compartment 29 through a non-return ball valve contained in a housing 31 and an adjustable valve 34 into a tubular chamber 26 where it is mixed with water supplied through an inlet 23 from the same pressure source as that of the water operating the piston 18. The antiseptic solution passes through a tube 49 of smaller diameter than that of the chamber 26 so that it is induced by the flow of water through the inlet 23. The mixture passes from the passage 26 to an outlet nozzle and its proportions may be varied by a screw adjustment of the valve 34 by rotation of a control lever 45.
