Abstract
593,982. Retaining wheels on toys. LINES BROS., Ltd., LINES, W., and WHITEHORN, P. J. June 21 1945, No. 15864. [Class 132 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXII, XXXI and XXXIV] A retaining cap 11 is secured on the axle of a toy, child's vehicle &c. by entering the end 18 of the axle which has a deformable cylindrical wall 20 into the aperture 14 of the cap, and imparting one or more blows to the percussion tool 21 the end of which fits the indentation 16 located centrally in the part 13. The wall is thereby splayed out against the inner surface of the indentation 16 as shown in Fig. 2. The indentation 16 may be formed by the percussion tool itself and the parts 12, 13 (either or both of which may be dished) may be secured to one another by turning the outer margin 17 of part 13 over the rim 15 of part 12. The overlapping rims 15 and 17 may be soldered, welded, or otherwise united together. These retaining caps are said to have the advantage over the usual methods of retaining wheels, pedals &c. on axles of being free from sharp edges and projections liable to cause injury to children and of being smooth and attractive in appearance.
