Abstract
593,337. Type printing telegraphy. CREED & CO., Ltd., and THOMPSON, A. E. June 15, 1945, No. 15247. [Class 40 (iii)] In a telegraph printing mechanism means are provided to print both a character and its code representation simultaneously on the same medium. As described, two type-wheels 2, 3, each bearing characters in one " case " are slidably mounted on a splined shaft 1 and between them is mounted a code drum 11 bearing a row of projections parallel to its axis for each pair of characters on the two typewheels and representing the 5-unit code representation of said characters. By means of normal case-shift mechanism, the arms 9, 10 riding in slots 6, 7 of the type-wheel bosses 4, 5 cause one or other of the type-wheels to move close to the code-drum, so that when a printing hammer 12 descends it presses an ink ribbon 13 against a tape 14, and the tape against the code drum and one or other type-wheel, so as to print a character and its equivalent code representation. A modification uses only one type-wheel with two angular positions for each code signal, the required position being selected by the case-shift mechanism.
