Abstract

592,941. Signalling over power circuits. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. June 21, 1944, No. 11802. Convention date, July 9, 1943. [Class 40 (iv)] In systems in which control signals are transmitted over power lines, the difficulties resulting from power factor correction condensers are overcome by connecting across them a compensating network consisting of a resonant circuit, tuned to mains frequency, in series with an inductance. This blocks mains frequency and provides a tuned inductance in parallel with the correction condensers for the control frequency. In the compensation circuit the combination 5, 6, Fig. 2, is tuned to 50 c.p.s. to prevent losses at mains frequency and acts as a capacitance to the relatively high control frequency. The inductance 7 is added in series so that the whole circuit is inductive to the control currents and compensates for the presence of the correction condenser across which it is connected. The frequency to which the arrangement is tuned may be below or above the control frequency according to whether the load circuits are capacitative or inductive. The manner of connecting the networks to a threephase system is shown in Fig. 1. Deltaconnected correction condensers 4 are connected to the low voltage side of the power transformer 2 and the compensation circuits 1, 11, 111 are star-connected across the condensers. When desired, the condensers, together with the compensation circuits, are disconnected by the switch 3.
