Abstract

592,535. Looms. PILLING, T., and PILLING & SONS, Ltd., J. Aug. 17, 1944, No. 15720. [Class 142 (i)] A loom stop-motion for use in conjunction with a centre weft fork of the hit and miss type such, for example, as described in Specification 558,321, has an upright slide D, Fig. 2, mounted on the sley A and operatively connected to a horizontal slide C connected by a rod C' with the supplementary slide (not shown) appertaining to the centre weft fork. When the weftfails or breaks, the slide D remains down and, when the sley comes forward, the lower end of this slide rocks an adjustable pivoted spring- controlled lever E carrying a finger E<2> which strikes an arm H on the shaft H', oscillation of which causes the cam H' carried thereon to disengage the starting handle J thereby transferring the belt from the fast to the loose pulley. The handle J carries a slip catch actuator K<3> having a gap inclined along one side through which passes one arm K<2> of a two armed lever pivoted on the lever E, the other arm K<1> engaging a stud L on one arm L<1> of a pivoted brake catch lever, the other arm L<3> of which engages an adjustable collar M on the spring controlled brake adjusting rod M<1>. Actuation of the lever E as above described also causes the arm K' to release the brake catch lever from the collar M whereupon the spring M<6> applies the band brake M<5> to stop the loom before the sley reaches the front centre. As the starting handle moves to the off position, the inclined side of the gap in the actuator K' depresses the arm K<2> and lifts the arm K<1> clear of the stud L so as to allow the catch L' to fall on the collar M and be in a position to re-engage the latter when the brake is released. The slip catch K' automatically re-engages the stud L when the starting handle is returned to the on position. The brake may be released by a hand or foot lever. In a modification the slide D may be held stationary in a raised position as long as weft is presented to the weft fork and, in the absence of weft, be lowered to actuate the lever E.
