Abstract

592,475. Barrels for firearms. WERNLI, M. May 22, 1945, No. 12838. [Class 92 (ii)]. The barrel of a firearm is subdivided into two parts 1, 4 by means which provide the required jointing pressure and are resilient, so that the release, removal and replacement of one of the barrel parts is effected by overcoming the resilient pressure. As shown in Fig. 4, the rear part 4 has threaded on it a ring 7 which holds in place a ring 6. Around the ring 7 are fitted 'a number of screws 10 which pass through holes in a member 9, and between this member and the heads of the screws are fitted resilient discs 15 which serve to urge the member rearwards against a shoulder 2 on the barrel part 1, thus exerting the required pressure to hold together the two conical surfaces of the barrel parts. The ring 6 also has a number of holes 13 fitted with pistons 17 and supplied when desired with pressure fluid by a conduit 32, the various holes being connected by a channel in the ring. To remove the barrel pressure fluid is admitted to the holes 13 and the resulting forward movement of the pistons cause their reduced ends 18 to move the member 9 forwards against the action of the discs 15. The barrel 1 can now be removed by first rotating it through 60 degrees, such action bringing spaced lugs on its shoulder 2 opposite spaced recesses on the member 9. A further clamp 20, Fig. 1, may be provided for the part 1, this consisting of a vertically moving jaw which is urged downwards by springs on to the upper surface of the barrel to press the barrel against a ring in a mounting part 22. Release is effected by pistons acted on by fluid pressure, the pistons serving to lift the clamping jaw.
