Abstract

592,444. Work holders for lapping gauges. TRIGGS, W. W. (Niles-Bement- Pond Co.). Oct. 12, 1944, No. 19700. [Class 60] A gauge holder for gauge-lapping machines comprises in combination a body member, means to support an adjustable gauge, for lapping, in position on said holder, and means rotatably and slidably mounted in said body member for actuating engagement with sizeadjusting means within said gauge. The body member 10 has a recess to receive the ring gauge W to be lapped, and has locating studs engaging openings of the gauge. Members 13 have their inner ends shaped to enter the slots in the heads of the screws and lock nut provided on the gauge for adjustment of its size. The members 13 can be rotated by handles 16 at their outer ends, to effect adjustment of the size of the gauge while it is in the holder, during the progress of the lapping operation. The members 13 are urged into engaging position by springs 18, and can be retracted, to permit insertion or removal of the gauge, by levers 22 pivoted on the body member 10. During lapping, the holder is oscillated, by means of radial arm 23, in a lapping machine, as described in co-pending Specification 592,445.
