Abstract
A composition, suitable for impregnating fibrous sheeted material to improve its resistance to oil, gasoline and other solvents and to improve its dielectric properties, is prepared by stirring a molten oil-modified alkyd resin into a bodied drying oil held at a temperature not exceeding 350 DEG F. in proportion of up to one part by weight of resin to two parts by weight of bodied oil, reheating until the mixture is clear and then cooling rapidly. The drying oil may be tung oil, dehydrated castor oil, or such synthetic oils as those known to the trade as Kellin (produced from linseed oil), Kelsoy (produced from soya beans) or Conjulin (produced from linseed oil). These oils may be used alone or in combination with tung oil, dehydrated castor oil or oiticica oil. The drying oil may be heat-bodied and where a combination of oils is employed they may be bodied separately and then mixed after bodying. Specification 522,892 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a composition comprising substantially only a bodied drying oil containing a compatibilized alkyd resin in solution therein up to one half the oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A composition, suitable for impregnating fibrous sheeted material to improve its resistance to oil, gasoline and other solvents and to improve its dielectric properties, is prepared by stirring a molten oil-modified alkyd resin into a bodied drying oil held at a temperature not exceeding 350 DEG F. in proportion of up to one part by weight of resin to two parts by weight of bodied oil, reheating until the mixture is clear and then cooling rapidly. These oils may be used alone or in combination with tung oil, dehydrated castor oil or oiticica oil. The drying oil may be heat-bodied and where a combination of oils is employed they may be bodied separately and then mixed after bodying. In the production of gaskets and masking tape, the fibrous base material such as cellulose may be impregnated with the composition, preferably without the aid of solvents, at elevated temperature. Specification 522,892, [Group III], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a composition comprising substantially only a bodied drying oil containing a compatibilized alkyd resin in solution therein up to one half the oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
