Abstract

A device for detecting moisture in a gas comprises a metallic member 11 having the property of changing its appearance when heated in a moist atmosphere, enclosed in a transparent envelope 6 through which the gas is passed, and provided with means for heating it, e.g., by passing an electric current through it. The change in appearance may be measured by a <PICT:0591542/III/1> photoelectric cell 24. The device may be used for testing a gas used in the treatment of metals in a furnace 1, in which case the metallic element is of the same composition as the metal to be treated, e.g., chrome-iron.
