Abstract

<PICT:0451678/III/1> A device for detecting combustible gas in the atmosphere by means of the increased luminosity of a heated filament comprises a pair of matched filaments connected in parallel to a source of current, one filament 13 being exposed to the gas and the other 20 protected from it, and two photo-electric cells 18, 22 irradiated by the respective filaments and connected in opposed series relationship. The instrument is calibrated so that a galvanometer 19 in series with the cells gives a zero reading when combustible gas is absent. According to the Provisional Specification the sealed filament and the corresponding photo-electric cell may be omitted. Specification 440,947 is referred to.
