591,456. Goggles. AMERICAN OPTICAL CO. July 11, 1944, No. 13276. Convention date, May 12, 1943. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXIII] Welders' masks or goggles are made from a glass composition (see Group XXIII) having infra-red, ultra-viotet and visible ray absorption, to which neodymium in the form of crude rare earth oxides or other compounds containing neodymium is added to give sodium line absorption. A preferred composition comprises the following parts by weight : SiO2 54 ; Na2O 10; K2O 5; CaO 2 ; crude rare earth oxides containing neodymium 24; Na2SO4, NaCl, As2O5, Sb2O5 severally or in any combination 0 to 3 ; Fe2O3 0:5 to 15.
