[Class 20 (iv)] A spacer for the individual panels 14 of a series of panels which are to be arranged in overlapping spaced echelon formation on a roof or wall, with their side edges aligned, the lower edge of each panel resting on an outer ledge 16 of a horizontal runner 11 of a spaced series of runners and the upper edge of each panel resting on an inner ledge 15 of the runner next above the one which supports its lower edge, has surfaces for engaging the runners so as to locate it and surfaces to abut the side edges and lower edges of the panels so as to maintain the aligned echelon formation and also surfaces to rest on both the upper and lower edges of the panels to hold them firmly onto the respective supporting edges of the runners. As shown, runners 11 of T or L-section are secured to adjacent roof members 13. Roofing panels 14 are arranged to lie with their upper edges on the inner ledges 15 of the runners and with their lower edges projecting over the outer ledges 16 of the runners next beneath and are secured by T-section spacers provided with recesses 17 to engage over the ledges 16 of the runners and with stops 18, which may be fixed or detachably secured to the sides of the spacer to provide an abutment for the lower edge of one panel and to rest on the upper portion of the next beneath to retain its upper edge in firm contact with the runner. The spacer is attached by one or more tie rods 25 to a runner or runners so that by adjusting the nut 28 the panels 14 are firmly held against the runners 11. The table 19 of the spacer bears upon the lower corners of the panels thus holding them firmly against the runners and also providing a weathering for the sides of the panels.
