[Class 20 (iv)] A vertical member for use in building structures, which are formed of a framework of vertical and horizontal members, has a longitudinally extending channel, the side faces of which are provided with laterally extending projections arranged to support elements associated with the horizontal members. As shown the channel 11 in the vertical member 10 is formed with zig-zag faces 12. The end of the horizontal member 13 may be correspondingly shaped to fit into the channel or as shown a U-shaped bracket element has each limb 21 folded outwardly and shaped to form a zig-zag section 20 corresponding to the channel faces, the horizontal member 13 being supported in the U of the bracket. The bracket may be supported by a block or corbel formed with zig-zag projections and engaging in the channel 11 directly beneath the bracket. The corbel member may be used alone without any bracket, the member 13 resting directly upon it. Holes are formed in the side walls of this channel 11, in the bracket elements and in the horizontal members with pins 19 passing therethrough. The holes in the supporting element and horizontal member are arranged so that the height of the horizontal member may be varied by reversing the horizontal member or supporting element. Preferably the vertical and horizontal members are formed of reinforced concrete, the horizontal members being of I or Tee-section along most of their length apart from the integral supporting element. The channel 11 may be provided with curved surfaces on its inside faces and where a bracket is employed it is formed with a bowed outer limb conforming to the curve.
