590,428. Boot &c. protectors. SWIFT, T. B. April 10, 1946, No. 9218/45. [Class 17 (iii)] A replaceable reinforcement for the tread surface of a heel comprises a shallow flanged circular disc 4 of relatively hard material, such as metal, of a size to suit the heel, within which to the depth of the flange is a disc 5 of wearing material such as leather or rubber, or a composite disc of such wearing materials. The whole is fixed to the shoe heel by a central screw. the rear and front faces of the disc 4 have integral barbs,4d, 4c to engage respectively the heel, to prevent rotation in wear, and the disc 5. The disc may be partially rotated to bring a fresh portion of the wearing surface into the region of greatest wear and the securing screw 7 is then retightened.
