Abstract
590,323. Feeding closure caps. KRUEGER, E. A. July 19, 1943, No. 11724. [Class 125 (ii)] [Also in Groups II and XXX] Articles such as closure caps for bottles, jars &c. are brought from random orientation into ordered sequence and loaded into a hopper 32, Figs. 1 and 4, by way of the lid 33, the hopper being rotated around shaft 25 by means of a motor 18, and flights 48 causing the articles to be guided on to a back plate 29 in such a way that they slide downwards and become located between plate 29 and gauge ring 37, whereafter they pass into chute 50 in single file. Articles jammed between plates 29, 37 are freed by lifting gauge plate 37 by a cam-actuated lever 39, Fig. 4. The articles in chute 50, some of which are wrong side up, are checked momentarily by escapement detent 86, Fig. 7, whereafter they fall into recesses 66b of a star wheel 66, rotated on shaft 62 from motor 18. Those which are right side up are supported on a ledge 68, Fig. 8, the article being shown at C, and are carried round in this position. The others are not thus supported and tilt, under the action of a spring 69, into a recess 67 behind the star wheel as shown in Fig. 9, the recess being shaped as in Fig. 12, so that the article is turned over while being carried round by the star-wheel. The articles are thus delivered at throat 74 into chute 75 in the same sequence that they entered the star-wheel. The articles may be checked momentarily at the entrance to chute 75 by an escapement detent similar to 86, Fig. 7. The escapement mechanism includes a cam 78, Fig. 7, on shaft 62, a roller 80 on a lever 79, a spring 81 and a pawl 84 with upper and lower detents 87, 86 respectively. A modified form of device for turning over articles which are wrong side up is described in which the ledge 68 upon which the articles are supported forms part of a resiliently hinged wall of recess 67. The formation of this recess is otherwise the same as before.
