Abstract
590,241. Condiment receptacles. HODGE, W. G. April 4, 1945, No. 8315. [Class 18] A container for salt and pepper comprises an inner receptacle 13 slidably supported within a housing 1 and both parts having perforations 29, 30, 31, 32, which are brought into alignment to permit the contents to escape. The inner receptacle 13, divided into two compartments 15, 16 by a partition 14, is supported within the housing by a plate 2. The housing is cut away at an end to enable the inner receptacle to be moved against a spring 26 secured at the other end between the end walls of the inner receptacle and housing. Perforations 31, 32, are provided in a cover plate, supported on a ledge at the top of the inner receptacle, above each compartment. Similar perforations 29, 30, are provided in the top of the housing but are displaced so that only the perforations for one compartment are in line with those in the top of the housing at any one time. Movement of the inner receptacle within the housing permits the perforations of the second compartment to register with those in the top of the housing and at the same time the perforations for the first compartment are sealed. Corks 20 fit in bosses 18 provided in the base of the inner receptable and are accessible through a slot 21 in the supporting plate 2 for the purpose of refilling the containers. Alternatively the inner receptacle may comprise two separate containers placed together within the housing and the perforations may be arranged so that the contents of a number of the compartments may be used together. Any number of compartments may be provided and selection of a particular compartment may be assisted by a spring ball catch.
