Abstract

589,789. Home-trainers. PRATT, F. H., and BUTLER, C. April 5, 1945, No. 8432. [Class 136 (i)] A home trainer comprises a main frame carrying two vehicle-driven rollers, a secondary frame slidably connected to the main frame and carrying a belt driven third roller, means for adjusting the distance between this third roller and the vehicle driven rollers, and means for adjusting the distance between the axis of one vehicle driven roller and that of its companion roller. The main frame is constructed of tubular material and has slotted brackets 6 and 7 secured to the tubing to receive the spindles 8 of the two vehicle driven rollers. The secondary frame 12 slides telescopically within the base members 1 of the main frame to permit the third roller to be moved nearer to the vehicle driven rollers. Clamps 15 on the base member hold the frame 12 in position. Automatic belt tensioning means are provided comprising jockey pulleys 16 mounted on a lever 17 pivoted to the bracket 6 in the main frame, the pulleys being biassed in a belt-tensioning direction either by gravity or by gravity assisted by a spring. Foot rests 11 may be formed in the bracket 6, Fig. 1, or as in the modification shown in Fig. 5 a rod 27 is pivotally connected to the bracket 6 and curved in a horizontal plane to permit of longitudinal and transverse adjustments of a foot rest post 25.
