Abstract
589,530. Kettles; teapots. RUSSELL, R. March 26, 1945, No. 7570 [Class 66] [Also in Group XXIX] A kettle &c. 1 has a handle formed of two and an opening 4 at the top normally sealed by a plate 7 which fits against the underpart of a seating 5 and is secured to the inside of the kettle by a spring member 8, downward movement of the plate being limited by a bracket 6. A teapot placed on the upper part of the seating 5 depresses the plate 7 and allows steam to circulate around the base of the pot, this being facilitated by perforations or castellations in the base ring of the pot and the projections 9 on the plate. The handle 10 is pivotally mounted on the kettle to enable the pot to be placed in position. The bracket 6 may be replaced by a second spring member attached to the plate and kettle diametrically opposite to the spring 8. In a further modification, the plate may be loaded with a spiral spring retained in a tubular member secured to the base of the kettle, in which case the top of the tube is flared to act as a stop.
