[Class 83 (iv)] An assembly jig for accumulator plates comprises a base with a flat top supporting the plates under a spacer bar which is moved towards and away from the base in such a manner that it is maintained parallel thereto throughout its range of adjustment. The base-plate 1 is provided with bearings 5, 6 to receive screwed posts 3, 4 which engage threaded bushes 9 secured to a spacer bar 11, and are connected by chain and sprocket gear so as to effect a parallel adjustment of the bar. The tension of the chain is adjusted by jockey pulleys or by a partial rotation of the bearings which are secured in position by screws 7, 8 passing through eccentrically arranged holes in the flanges. The bushes have eccentric fixing holes in their flanges so that the posts maintain their vertical positions when the bearings 5, 6 are adjusted. A number of spacer bars may be used having one or both edges with slots which may be equally spaced, or differently spaced on each edge or have groups on each side of different spacings. The spacer bar may be initially adjusted to a parallel position by removing the screws from one of the bushes and rotating it independently. The accumulator plates 18 are placed on the base 1 with their lugs 19 passed into slots 17<1> in the spacer bar which has been vertically adjusted according to the size of the plates by rotating the posts by a tommy-bar placed in a hole in one end of one of them. The fitting comprising a post 22 and bridge 23 to which the lugs are to be secured by fusion, is placed with the bridge against the inner edges of the lugs, small steel blocks 24 are placed against the ends of the bridge and against a rail 20 which is connected by clips 21 to the bar and the lugs melted down to unite them to the bridge.
