Abstract

589,260. Compound sheet materials. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and MATON, W. C. March 21, 1945, No. 7081. [Class 140] [Also in Group XXIII] For bonding together wood or metal to form a panel the metal sheet 11 is formed with perforations 16 and a sheet of veneer 21 is connected to the metal panel by means of an adhesive which penetrates the perforations and constitutes a plurality of holding keys 32 to assist the adhesive action. The perforations as shown in Fig. 5 may be countersunk, or formed with jagged or irregular edges. The adhesive may be a thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin which is cured in an autoclave, or an emulsion adhesive, or one setting by evaporation may be used. A backing sheet of fabric or fibre may be used under the veneer.
