Abstract
589,208. Darts. RICHARDSON, F. A., and BRETT, H. March 19, 1945, No. 6892. [Class 132 (iii)] A dart with rotatable vanes is provided with a rotatable hub to which the vanes are attached and the hub is longitudinally bored for the passage of a headed pin or nail which is secured in a plug at the rear end of the dart shank. As shown in Fig. 3, the dart has a metal shank 1 with a hollow portion which is screw-threaded internally to receive a screw-threaded plug 5. A spinner comprising a hub 6 mounted for rotation on a pin 7 is provided and vanes 8 are secured to the hub so that each is inclined to the axis. The vanes fit into slots in the hub and are frictionally held under the inherent springiness of the material of the hub by means of a detachable collar 12 which has a tight sliding fit on the rear end of the hub. The vanes 8, as shown in Fig. 6, have root portions 11 which fit into the grooves of the hub. The vanes may be of paper, celluloid, or feathers. The hub may be of wood, plastic composition, or metal. If desired the vanes may be secured by adhesive tape or glue. A dart with non-rotatable vanes fitted to a detachable plug may be converted by removing the plug and replacing it by the rotatable vane device.
