Abstract

588,125. Protectors for boots &c. WARD, F. Jan. 31, 1945, No. 2438. [Class 17 (iii)] A wear-resisting tip 2 has a rib, flange or like formation 6, adapted to interlock with a correspondingly shaped groove 7 formed in the heel top piece. The rib 6 is formed on a tongue portion 5 which may extend across the full width of the top piece or for a portion only, and a portion of the wear-resisting tip 2 has inwardly inclined edges which abut correspondingly formed edges at the sides of a recess on the top piece. The rib may be secured in the groove 7 by adhesive. The abutting edges 3, 4 of the tip and top piece may be so bevelled as to produce a wedging action when the two parts are forcibly straightened in attaching the tip or top piece and tip to the heel. Nails may be driven through the top piece 1 and the tongue 5 into the heel to retain the tip in position.
