587,246. Toe protectors. WHITEFORD, A. W. Oct. 3, 1944, No. 18934. [Class 81 (ii)] A toe protecting shield comprises a member of elastic or expansible and contractible material, e.g., knitted or woven fabric, having a tubular portion 7, Fig. 4, and integral tapering extension 8 adapted to be folded or rolled inwardly upon itself, and to be disposed at the rear of the ball of the toe when the shield is accommodated to the toe. In one method of producing the shields, a tubular member is severed along lines extending, alternately, transversely and diagonally to the longitudinal axis of the tube. In a modification, a strip of the desired material, of the shape as shown in Fig. 6, is severed transversely at lines 15 and each severed portion is then folded upon itself and secured by adhesive to form the member. If desired spots of medicament may be applied to the-tubular portions of the shields.
