Abstract

587,190. Thermostats. GUMMERS, Ltd., and ELLIS, A. E. Jan. 31, 1944, Nos. 1756 and 2716. [Class 64 (ii) [Also in Group XXIX] The spring-loaded valve f, Fig. 1, for controlling the supply of steam to, e.g., the heating-coil of a water heater, is regulated by a thermostat q secured at one end to the valve spindle and at the other to a perforate tube r immersed in the water, and formed of bimetallic V-shaped elements connected in series, the metal of higher co-efficient of expansion of one element being connected to the metal of lower co-efficient of expansion of the adjacent elements so that a reduction in temperature of the water results in the expansion of the thermostat. In a modification, the thermostat consists of a series of bimetallic coils v, Fig. 2, the free ends of which act upon an extension x of the valve spindle.
