Abstract
587,125. Cathode-ray tubes. COMPANIA PARA LA FABRICACION DE CONTADORES Y MATERIAL INDUSTRIAL, SOC. ANON., and VITEAU, P. June 22, 1944, No. 11890. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode ray tube 1 for reproducing visual signals includes a small quantity of an alkaline metal, e.g. caesium, which is volatilized by heat from an electric oven 6 and condensed on a rectangular area of the flat mirror 2, cooled as indicated by circulation of air or water, forming a uniform thin opaque layer 8. The beam from the gun causes momentary evaporation at the point of impact giving a shadow 'image of the signal modulating the beam which may be reproduced on a screen by transmitted light or reflected light as in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The mean power of the beam and the temperatures of the oven and cooled surface may be regulated so that the speed of recondensation corresponds to the duration of an image, or, for obtaining persistent images, so that the time of recondensation is long. The temperature of the oven is about 100 to 200‹ C. and the persistance of the image may be <1>/5oth of a second to some seconds.
