Abstract

587,103. Rotary furnaces. HOOK, E. C., and BUTTERLEY CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1945, No. 385. [Class 51 (ii)] In a rotary metal melting and purifying furnace a horizontally rotating drum lined with refractory material and fettling and having provision made to admit working heat at one end, has a movable flue chamber adapted for preheating and melting the charge, capable of being moved, either into register with an opening at the other end of the drum and with a stationary outlet flue, or away from this working position for charging and discharging operations. The drum a is mounted on rollers b keyed to axles c capable of being driven at variable speeds and has water cooled rings a<1>, a<2> registering with similar rings d', e<1> on the furnace d and the flue chamber e respectively. The flue chamber e is mounted on wheels i, riding on a runway i' fixed on a .wheeled chassis j running on lateral rails, and has a space f where the charge is melted during the refining of the previous charge.
