Abstract
585,646. Taking-up slack of flexible conductors. RICHARDS, H. H. Nov. 20, 1944, No. 23061. [Class 78 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Means for supporting the flexible cable 8 of electric irons during use comprises a socket attachment 1, Fig. 1, adapted to be secured to the ironing board, a clip or guide 9 for the cable, and a rigid arm 13 having its ends adapted for rapid engagement with and disengagement from the socket 1 and clip 9. The clip is rotatable upon the arm which is held in a fixed position relative to the socket 1. A clamping jaw 3, Figs. 4, 5, which is formed at one end with a notched rest 3b and at the other end with a claw 3a, is mounted loosely on the upper end of the socket. When the socket is inserted in an aperture in the board, it is secured by a nut 2a, Fig. 4, but when it bears against the side of the board, it is held in position by a member 4, Fig. 5, having upturned ends 4c, 4b, and a wing nut 2. The clamp 9, Fig. 3, or a guide 14, Fig. 7, has a socket 6 depending from it which receives the vertical upper end 13c of the arm 13. The lower end 13a is mounted in the socket 1 and is adjacent to a short horizontal portion 13b which is engaged with the notch 3b. When the guide 14 is used, a spring 16 is placed between it and a clamp 15.
