Abstract

584,441. Posts. HART, J. C., and CALDWELL, J. May 18, 1944, No. 9606. [Class 45] A fencing post 1 is formed of reinforced concrete with the reinforcement 2 extending substantially throughout its length and includes an end portion forming a minor part of the length of the post having moulded thereon a coarse helix or screw thread 3. The end portion of the post is tapered and the thread 3 is of semicircular cross section. The reinforcement rods 2 may be cast in the post 1 and may be disposed as shown or may be arranged in spiral formation. Inserts of wood or other material to secure wire &c. to the post after erection may be cast in position during the formation of the post, the mould for which is divided in a diagonal plane and is formed with notches to receive the nails and screws which hold the inserts in position. The reinforcements 2 may be clipped to the inserts and the mould posts may be of metal or plastic material and may be dowelled. The hole for the post is formed by a tool 4, Fig. 3, which may be attached to a road breaker or mechanical rammer and the conical head 5 of which is shaped similarly to the root portion of the lower end of the post 1 and may be fluted to resemble a rose cutter. A thread forming tool, Fig. 4, comprises a rod 6 with a tapered base 7 formed with a thread 8. In an alternative form the thread cutting element is constituted by rollers mounted to rotate on spindles and positioned on the base of the tool to correspond with the thread of the post 1. The thread forming tool is turned by means of a wrench which fits both the square head 9 of the tool and the head of the post 1. The lower end of the post 1 may be formed with holes through which liquid cement may be forced via a central passage after the post has been inserted in the ground.
