Filed Dec. 7, i966, Ser. N 119,754 l@ Ciams. (Cl. Z55- 426) The present invention relates to a lfence construction and it particularly relates to a fence construction of readily changeable or demountable sections.
Although not limited thereto, the present invention will be particularly described in its application to fence construction having 4a plurality of spaced posts of concrete or wood, between which are positioned readily detachable fence units of various shapes, designs or sizes which may be readily replaced or remo-ved.
it is among the objects of the present invention to provide a novel fence construction in which, although the spaced post elements are xed, the runner sections are readily removable for repair, replacement and painting.
Another object is to provide a novel fence construction which permits the Stringer Sections to be of varying dcsigns.
Another object is to provide a fencing arrangement for homes, factories or the like in which the various individual sections of fencing may be readily removed for painting and other maintenance under shelter and in which the individual posts may be set to align without great accuracy and with the hardware permitting ready adjustment for variations in height and distance between the relatively fixed posts.
Another object is to permit a pre-assernbled fence construction to be readily manufactured and then installed with a minimum of labor, with the basic stringers and hardware being readily attached and with a relatively Wide unlimited choice of fence design being possible.
A still further object is to provide a fence construction which may either be partly or wholly prefabricated, with any number of posts to be set up to' `form square, rectangular or polygonal patterns creating a maze, or which may be lreadily changed to accommodate the requirements in Stock breeding pens, stockyards, quarantine pens, property line changes, and enclosures for children, pets, flower gardens, and the like.
Still further `objects and advantages will appear in the more detailed description set forth below, it being understood, however, that this more detailed description is given by way of illustnation and eXplanata-ion only and not by way of limitation, Since various changes therein may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the Scope and Spirit of the present invention.
ln accomplishing the above objects the basic construction with reenforced concrete fence posts requires a contour threaded Stringer hook with square or hexagon nuts and with Stringer plates forming the only hardware required. The reenforced concrete fence posts of the various designs of fence stringers will then constitute the final fence construction.
`With a wood post construction, on the other hand, the only hardware required are gimlet-pointed Stringer hooks, square or hexagonal nuts and Stringer plates.
These hardware elements are associated with the fixed wood posts land with the connecting Stringer sections to form a final fence.
Desirably, the principal item of the hardware consists of angular bolt members, which screw into the posts either by tap sleeves or by a wood screw connection to form upright end members which will adjustably carry the Stringer plates attached at high and low points to the fence Stringer sections.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is Shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications oan be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to FlGS. l to 4, there is shown a wooden post A, which may be of square cross-section and which receives the gimlet-pointed Stringer hooks B at the top and bottom thereof.
These gimlet-pointed hooks engage the Stringer plates C which are mounted on the ends D of the fence Stringer sections, which may be of varying designs and shapes.
The wooden fence post A has a lower end Zh which may be mounted in the ground or into a suitable base at desired intervals and the cross-Section may be square, or rectangular as shown lin FlGS. 3, 4, 5 to 8.
The gimlet-pointed Stringer hooks B have the wood screw portions 21 Which terminate in upright threaded portions Z2 receiving the nuts 23. Upon the upright threaded post 2?. is received the slotted portion Z4 of the Stringer plate C.
The Stringer plate C has the bolt connections 25 and 26 in the Slots 27 and 28 to the member 29 of the stringers D.
The nuts 23, when removed, permit the stringers D to be readily removed for painting or maintenance or adding sections of the same or for a different design to be applied thereto.
The fence also may be altogether removed, as may the Stringer hooks B, where it is desired to use some other fence construction, and the fence section may always be rebuilt or re-hung, as desired.
By loosening the nuts 23 it is possible to accommodate variations of elevation between posts as the ground may change in shape or contour, and it is also readily possible to accommodate variations in spacing between the posts. The Stringer plates are preferably slotted at 214, 227 and 28 to permit ready adjustment.
ln the `concrete posts E shown in FIGS. 5, 6 and 7, there is a central tubular structure F with tapped sleeves G and a ladder-like reen-forcement H.
The central tube F Imay be formed of plastic-coated fibre board and the ends may be closed, as indicated at 35 and 36 in PIG. 5, to keep the inside empty and lessen the weight of the concrete post.
The ladder Structure H has the round transverse elements 37, which may be Welded or otherwise attached at intervals to the vertical reenforcement parallel rods 33.
These ladder-like reenforcements may be placed on either side of the tube, las best Shown in FIG. 7.
Extending through the tube F and through the concrete side walls, as shown best in FIG. 6, are the tubular -members 39 which are interiorly threaded or attached to receive the threaded ends 40 of the contour thread Stringer hooks G.
These contour threaded Stringer hooks G also have the vertical ends 4l which are threaded at 42 to receive the nuts 43.
The Stringer plates J, as shown in FlG. 6, imay be of the same construction as the plates C of FiGS. 1 to 4, and they may be attached to the fence sections K of the same designs and constructions as the tence Structures D of FIGS. 1 to 4.
The lower portion 44 of the post `E will be imbedded in the ground and a number of these posts may be positioned at varying intervals.

ln the end construction of FIG. 9, only one Stringer hook G is shown as mounted in the transverse sleeve element 61, which sleeve o1 extends through the tube 62 of the same construction as the tube` F of FlG. 5.
By the arrangement as shown in FIGS. 1 to 9, by use of relatively Simple hardware units, including the stringer hooks and the nuts of the Stringer plates, it is possible to string up a wide variety of 'fence designs and constructions, readily accommodating changes in direction or elevation and permitting the sections of stringers to be Shoptfabricated.
Each individual Section of fencing may be readily removed tor painting and other maintenance and there will be no likelihood of ower beds or gardens being trampled by painting or maintenance, if maintenance must be done in position.
Any number of posts may be set up to form Square or rectangular patterns and it is readily possible to create a maze or to change the fencing for varying requirements.
Thus it is most readily possible to form stock breeding pens, stockyards, quarantine pens, property line changes, and enclosures for children and pets.
The lfence construction permits ready adjustment by screwing in and out of the Stringer hooks and the Stringer plates will also permit variation in angle, height and placing. There need not be accurate carpentry in building the fence Sections, nor is it necessary to use complicated mitres.
Even an amateur woodworker may produce workmanlikc fences.
Where entry gates are required, the standard hardware may be `furnished completely Suitable yfor hinge-type gates depending on the Stringer hooks and Stringer plates (forming part of this invention.
`Furthermore, the individual posts :may be set and a wide variety of types of fence designs may be suspend-ed or mounted thereon.
As many changes could be made in the above fence construction, and many widely dilferent embodiments or" this invention could be made without departure from the scope of the claims, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the invention, and in what Imanner the Same is to be performed, what is claimed is:
1. A detachable Ifence post construction for a fence of the type having detachable ends of Stringer rence Sections removably and vertically pivotally attached thereto, said construction comprising a vertical post having a large central closed top and bottom hollow cylinder extending vertically therethrough and terminating short of the upper and lower ends thereof and having small diameter transverse short cylinders extending transversely through said large cylinder and from side to side of said fence post and opening on the sides of Said fence post and having Stringer hooks mounted in the sides thereof and a plurality of Stringer fence section ends detachably mounted on the sides of the spaced posts, Said fence section ends carrying upper and lower horizontal beam members and horizontal plates having three spaced longitudinally extending slotted openings one being positioned on top of and engaging the Stringer hooks and positioned on the bottom of and engaging the ends of the horizontal beam members and vertical bolts extending vertically upwardly into said beam members and through the other two slotted openings.
2. A detachable fence post construction for a fence of the type having detachable ends of Stringer Afence Sections removably land vertically pivotally attached thereto, Said construction comprising a vertical post having a large central closed top and bottom hollow cylinder extending vertically therethrough and terminating Shortof the upper and lower ends thereof andhaving small diameter transverse short cylinders Vextending transversely through Said large cylinder and from Side to side of said :fence post and opening on the Sides of said -fence post and having Stringer-hooks mounted in the Sides thereot and a plurality of Stringer fence Section ends detachably mounted on the sides of the spaced posts, Said Stringer hooks consisting of a horizontal Section adjustably Screwed into the Side of the posts adjacent the top and bottom thereof and vertical end members adjustabiy and detachably receiving the ends of the Stringer rfence Sections, Said tence section ends carrying upper and lower horizontal beam-members and horizontal plates having three spaced longitudinally extend-ing Slotted openings one being positioned on top of and engaging the Stringer hooks and positioned on the bottom of andengagin-g the ends of the horizontal beam members and vertical bolts extending vertically upwardly into Said beam members and through the other two slotted openings.
3. A detachable fence post construction for a .fence of the type havin-g detachable ends of Stringer 4fence Sections removably and vertically pivotally attached thereto, said construction comprising a vertical post having a large central closed top and bottom hollow cylinder extending vertically therethrough and terminating short of the upper and lower' ends thereof and having small diameter transverse short cylinders extending transversely through said large cylinder and from side to side of said fence post and opening on the Sides of said fence post and having Stringer hooks mounted in the Sides thereof and a plurality of Stringer fence Section ends detachably mounted on the Sides of the spaced posts, and horizontal adjustable slotted Stringer plates connected on the lower sides of the ends of Said -ence sections adjacent the top and bottom thereof and mounted on said Stringer hooks.
4. A detachable fence post construction -for a fence of the type having Ydetachable ends of Stringer fence sections removably and vertically pivotally attached thereto, said construction comprising a vertical post having a large central closed top and `bottom hollow cylinder extending vertically therethrough and termin-ating Short of the upper and lower ends thereof and having Small diameter transverse short cylinders extending transversely through Said large cylinder and from side to Side of said fence post and opening on the sides of Said fence post and having Stringer hooks mounted in the Sides thereof and a plurality of Stringer fence section ends detachably mounted on the Sides of the spaced posts, said spaced posts being of concrete and having their threaded sleeves therein receiving Said Stringer hooks, Said fence sections ends carrying upper and lower horizontal beam members and horizontal plates having three spaced longitudinally extending slotted openings one being positioned on top of and engaging the Stringer hooks and positioned on the bottom of and engaging the ends of the horizontal beam members and vertical bolts extending vertically upward- -ly into said beam members and through the other two slotted openings.
5. A detachable tence post construction for a fence of the type having detachable ends of Stringer fence sections removably and vertically pivotally attached thereto, said construction having right angular Stringer hooks with horizontal threaded arms screwed into the opposite sides of said post adjacent the top and bottom thereof and the vertical arms of said hooks extending vertically upward-ly, said vfence section ends having top and bottom horizontal rectangular beams located at the level of said hooks and elongated slotted horizontal connection plates having a plurality of slotted openings with outside end openings engaging said hooks and extending in an opposite direction under and being adjustably attached to the undersides of said rectangular beams.
6. The construction of claim 5, said beams having slotted openings in said connection plates being mounted on the undersides of said beams by bolts with the slotted openings permitting adjustment both in respect to the vertical arms and the bolts.
7. rl'he construction of claim 5, said posts consisting of hollow concrete shells having horizontal threaded sleeves embedded therein and a circular interior vertical shell extending `full height thereof into `which said shells project.
8. A detachable mounting -fence post construction of the type having detachable Stringer fence section ends removably attached thereto and also horizontally and vertically pivotally positioned in respect thereto, said construction including a vertical rectangular cross section hollow cast concrete post having a relatively large diameter interior hollow plastic coated iiberboard cylinder extending substantially the full length thereof and terminating short of the upper and lower ends theerof and having top and bottom closure disks and a plurality of 4 transverse cylinder members extending transversely through said post from side to side thereof and through said vertical cylinder adjacent the top of the post and also about the middle height of the post and having in- 6 teriorly threaded end portions adjacent the sides of the post and right angular stringe-r hook members of circular cross section with vertical and horizontal threaded arms, the horizontal threaded arms being threaded into the ends of said transverse cylinder members and nuts positioned on said vertical arms and transverse horizontal swinging elongated plates, their longitudinal axis transverse to the vertical axis of the post and having aligned slotted openings the-rein, the opening closest to the post tting over to said vertical arm and being -mounted so that it may swing upwardly, downwardly and sidewardly.
9. The post of claim 8 in which there are two vertical parallel side plates positioned inside the posts and extending substantially the length of said vertical cylinder and contacting the sides of said vertical cylinder and positioned parallel to one another and having vertical rodlike reinforcing members extending along the -faces of the plates opposite the lfaces of the plates contacting said vertical cylinder, said plates extending -from side to side of the post but terminating short of the outside -faces of the post and terminating short of the upper and lower ends of the post.
10. The post of claim 8 in which there are two vertical parallel ladders having spaced vertical side rods positioned inside the posts and extending substantially the length of said vertical cylinder and contacting the sides of said vertical cylinder and positioned parallel to one another and having horizontal rod-like reinforcing nie-rnbers attached to the ffaces of the vertical rods opposite the contacting faces of said vertical cylinder, said horizontal rods extending 4from side to side of the post but terminating short of the outside faces of the post and said vertical rods terminating short of the upper and lower ends of the post and being positioned farther apart than the maximum outside diameter of the cylinder.

Claims (1)

1. A DETACHABLE FENCE POST CONSTRUCTION FOR A FENCE OF THE TYPE HAVING DETACHABLE ENDS OF STRINGER FENCE SECTIONS REMOVABLY AND VERTICALLY PIVOTALLY ATTACHED THERETO, SAID CONSTRUCTION COMPRISING A VERTICAL POST HAVING A LARGE CENTRAL CLOSED TOP AND BOTTOM HOLLOW CYLINDER EXTENDING VERTICALLY THERETHROUGH AND TERMINATING SHORT OF THE UPPER AND LOWER ENDS THEREOF AND HAVING SMALL DIAMETER TRANSVERSE SHORT CYLINDERS EXTENDING TRANSVERSELY THROUGH SAID LARGE CYLINDER AND FROM SIDE TO SIDE OF SAID FENCE POST AND OPENING ON THE SIDES OF SAID FENCE POST AND HAVING STRINGER HOOKS MOUNTED IN THE SIDES THEREOF AND A PLURALITY OF STRINGER FENCE SECTION ENDS DETACHABLY MOUNTED ON THE SIDES OF THE SPACED POSTS, SAID FENCE SECTION ENDS CARRYING UPPER AND LOWER HORIZONTAL BEAM MEMBERS AND HORIZONTAL PLATES HAVING THREE SPACED LONGITUDINALLY EXTENDING SLOTTED OPENINGS ONE BEING POSITIONED ON TOP OF AND ENGAGING THE STRINGER HOOKS AND POSITIONED ON THE BOTTOM OF AND ENGAGING THE ENDS OF THE HORIZONTAL BEAM MEMBERS AND VERTICAL BOLTS EXTENDING VERTICALLY UPWARDLY INTO SAID BEAM MEMBERS AND THROUGH THE OTHER TWO SLOTTED OPENINGS.
