[Class 83 (i)] A gas, electric or other smoothing iron consists oi a tray-like casing of stain less steel and an iron or other metal body 12 cast into said casing. This may comprise a thick base 10, thinner walls 11 integral with, or welded to, the base. The walls may extend inward to form a perforated diaphragm 13 which is integral with, or welded to, said walls and may have depressions to engage the base 10 to which also they may be spot-welded at 17.
