Abstract
Thiophosgene is produced by reacting heated chloroform vapour with sulphur dioxide. The heat of burning sulphur may be utilised to vaporise chloroform which may also contain one or more substances yielding a toxic vapour, e.g., carbon tetrachloride or chloropicrin. The thiophosgene is applied as a fumigant. Specification 524,871, [Group VI], is referred to.ALSO:Thiophosgene for fumigation is produced in situ by reacting heated chloroform vapour with sulphur dioxide. The heat of burning sulphur may be utilized to vaporize the chloroform which may contain one or more substances yielding a toxic vapour, e.g., carbon tetrachloride or chloropicrin. The chemicals may be disposed in the apparatus described in Specification 524,871 the sulphur being burnt in the lower vessel beneath the chloroform &c. contained in the upper vessel.
