Abstract

583,267. Globes. PHILIP & SON, Ltd., G., and GOODALL, G. June 5, 1944, No. 10811. [Class 146 (ii)] A stand for a terrestial or celestial globe 21 comprises a hollow base 10 open at both ends, one end being capable of supporting the globe directly or of receiving a cover part 11 having means for locating or supporting a meridian or half-meridian band 16 to which the globe can be rotatably secured. Ribs 13 on the cover 11 fit into slots 12 in the base which also receives a cylindrical projection 14 on the cover. A screw 17 secures the band 16 in slots 15 in the base. Graduations are provided on the inner surface 19 of the base so that by inspection of the open end of the base when the latter is placed over a part of the surface of the globe measurements of distance may be made. A transparent disc 20 fixed or detachably secured to the base is graduated in squares for the estimation of areas.
