Abstract
494,997. Navigational plotting-instruments. FLADMARK, T. Nov. 24, 1937, No. 32313. [Class 97 (iii)] An instrument for plotting and reading off bearings comprises a plate 1, 2, having a circular opening around which rotate a ring 7, carrying a guide rod 10 for a sliding ruler 11, 12, and a ring 8. The plate is also provided with a stationary scale 17 and a graduated arc 20 movable in a peripheral direction. In use, the arc 20 is adjusted to bring the central zero graduation 21 opposite the graduation on the scale 17 corresponding to the magnetic variation. The graduated ring 8 is then adjusted to bring the 180‹ graduation opposite the graduation on the arc 20 corresponding to the deviation of the compass. The instrument is applied to a chart with the edge 6 of the plate 2 perpendicular to the meridian line and the ring 7 is adjusted to bring the diameter 13, 14 parallel to the desired course on the chart. The mark 13 then indicates the compass course corrected for variation and deviation on the ring 8 and the true course on a scale 23 marked on the plate I and exposed by openings 24, 25 in the ring 7. The foot piece 2 comprises several parts 3, 4, 5, 6 which are hinged together.
