Abstract

583,242. Wave guides. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., HARRIS, N. L., and SHAYLOR, J. H. June 30, 1944, No. 12535. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A window for use in an electrical wave-guide is produced by the following steps. A plain glass disc 10 is assembled in the frusto-conical opening 11 of a flexible metal pressing (Fig. 1) which is heated, as by eddy-current, to seal the edge of the glass to the metal (Fig. 2). This assembly is then reversed (Fig. 3) and by blow-pipe-heating, 14 any minute surface scratches are removed from the. disc which, on continued heating, is caused to assume the concavo-convex form as shown. The completed window is then secured to the copper element 15 of the wave-guide by amalgamation of a gold ring 17 between the stop 16 on the part 15 and the flange 13 of the window frame. The latter may be formed of copper, silver, or alloy such as chromium-iron or nickel-iron which may be copper - plated to improve adhesion to the glass.
