Abstract
582,989. Clothes pegs. COOK, T. April 24, 1944, No. 7537. [Class 44] A clothes peg comprises jaws 6, 15 to engage an article of clothing and a hook 7 having a slot 20 to engage the clothes-line, the jaw 6 forming a part of the main body 5 to which the jaw 15 is hinged at 11. The jaws are closed about the clothing by urging a collar 14, encircling the jaws, down the tapered outer surfaces of the jaws. Shoulders 13, 19 prevent the collar sliding off the jaws. Interfitting tongue 17 and recess 12 enable the jaws to grip the clothing positively. The hook 7 carries a locking pin 23 arranged to cause the peg to bind on the line when urged sidewise to a non-perpendicular position with respect, to the line. The pin 23 is a snug fit and is slidable in a hole in the hook.
