Abstract
Rags are prepared for grinding or garnetting so that the fibres can be reconverted into yarn or made into flocks, by thoroughly soaking them, after washing to remove dirt, in an emulsion or a solution consisting of or containing a lubricating medium, excess liquid being removed by squeezing or other mechanical method, and followed, if desired, by a drying treatment. The lubricating medium may be an oil, e.g. olein, which is employed as an emulsion in water, or glycerine employed in aqueous solution. A glycerine solution may be combined with an oil-in-water emulsion or treatment with glycerine solution may be followed or preceded by treatment with the emulsion. The rags may be treated in their wet or dry condition, and if the lubricated rags are dried, they are subsequently wetted out by water or further lubricating solution. A suitable lubricating bath comprises 4 parts by volume of water to 1 part of olein at a temperature of 110 DEG F. Specification 470,870 is referred to.
