Abstract
581,870. Mixing liquids in proportionate quantities. GREY, R. B., HOLLEY, A. E., and MOTT, O. E. July 4, 1944, No. 12696. [Class 86] In an apparatus for treating a liquid with another of different density in countercurrent, comprising a series of separating and mixing vessels at the same level, mixing of the two liquids in definite proportions is assured by a float 7 in each mixing vessel, which actuates shutters 10, 11, controlling the inlets 2, 3 for the less dense and the denser liquids respectively. The float 7 is mounted on a spindle 4, movable vertically in guides 5, 6 and linked to pivoted levers 12, 13 carrying the shutters 10, 11 respectively. An increase of the less dense liquid in the vessel 1 causes a fall of the float 7 to raise the shutter 11 and the shutter 10, to decrease the inflow of the less dense liquid and to increase the inflow of the denser liquid. Similarly an increase of the denser liquid in the vessel 1 raises the float 7 to decrease the inflow of the denser liquid and to increase the inflow of the less dense liquid.
