Abstract

580,377. Wave guides. FENWICK, C. E., and WEIGHT, C. S. March 28, 1944, No. 5740. [Class 40 (v)] A rectangular wave guide has one pair of opposite sides 1, 1<1> formed of solid metal sheets and the other pair 2, 2<1> formed of a plurality of separate parallel metal strips or wires which may be formed integrally with the plates or soldered thereto. One of the plates may be formed with a slot 3 to allow the insertion of a probe. The whole assembly may be encased in rubber or other flexible covering. The form shown in Fig. 1 is flexible in a direction perpendicular to the solid plates 1, 1<1>. Fig. 2 shows a guide formed on a twisted mandrel, the twist being 90 degrees. This gives transverse flexibility in all directions and torsional flexibility. Alternatively, the guide may be given two twists of opposite hand (Fig. 3, not shown).
