Abstract

812,032. Flexible waveguides. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Nov. 9, 1956 [Nov. 30, 1955], No. 34371/56. Class 40 (8). A hollow waveguide of circular cross-section, used to propagate the H 01 mode, comprises at least one metallic wire 11 helically wound in contiguous turns, with a plastic sheath 12 externally covering the wound wire. The crosssection of the wire is such that it presents a rectilinear side to the inside of the guide and this side constitutes the maximum width of the wire. The width of the wire, parallel to this rectilinear side, tapers from the inside of the guide towards its peri. phery, so that when the guide is bent the rectilinear sides of two successive turns remain adjacent on the inner side of the curvature of the waveguide. In the embodiment illustrated the cross-section of the wire is semi-circular, but it may be triangular or trapezoidal.
