Abstract
579,931. Moulding lenses &c. from synthetic resins &c. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. Oct. 14, 1943, No. 16910. Convention date, Oct. 16,1942. [Class 87 (ii)] As the resin &c. shrinks during polymerization, the mould walls 10, 12 move towards each other, their supports 14, 16 being mounted upon ball or other bearings 18. The amount of movement may be limited by removable stops disposed between the mould walls or by stops fixed to one of the supports 14, 16. In use, the mould walls are fixed a distance apart by means of clamping screws 26, the mould cavity is completed by means of a circumferentially-disposed tape 28, and resin is injected into the mould cavity from a syringe &c., the tape being pierced by the latter. As the mould walls approach each other, the tape crumples. In a modification, one support slides on a shaft and the other support is formed with a shaft which is slidably mounted in a bearing.
