Abstract

Mortar for building and constructional purposes is obtained by a method which consists in delivering mechanically slaked and matured lime of a high calcium content conjointly with dried sharp quartz sand, free from deleterious material to a mechanical mixer or mixers. The lime is hopper-fed to a slaking unit (see Group III) in which it is treated with water and then discharged to pits in which it is allowed to mature, preferably for a few weeks. The sand, after washing and drying, is fed together with the lime to a mixer (see Group II) in which the grains of sand are smoothly coated with lime to produce a mortar of high workability which will adhere to a trowel. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 17597/94, [Class 22], and 20534/02, [Class 87].
