Abstract

579,158. Bomb throwers. JEFFERIS, M. R., COOPER, H. E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 5, 1942, No. 10896. [Class 92 (ii)] ' Relates to bomb throwers of the kind in which the spigot 12 is connected to, or associated with, a weighted member 10 adapted to minimise recoil. According to the invention, the member 10 is carried by a rearwardlyretractable concentric tubular guide 11 which is provided internally with an attachment, such as a collar 28, co-operating with the spigot, the arrangement being such that a manual rearward withdrawal of the guide brings both the member 10 and the spigot into the cocked position. In the construction shown, the guide is secured to the shoulder plate 3, the latter being fitted with a socket 21 having a bayonet joint connection with the weapon. The spigot carries the striker pin 13 and the latter carries a rod 27 having a plunger 29 with which the collar 28 engages during the cocking action. The spigot and member 10 may either be secured rigidly together, or they may be separate, the spigot in the latter case having a limited travel and being controlled by a light spring which holds it in a predetermined position.
