Abstract

A copolymer having an iodine number below 50 is prepared from a -methyl styrene, isoprene and isobutylene in presence of a Friedel-Craft catalyst, such as aluminium chloride, in a solvent, such as methyl chloride, at a temperature between - 50 DEG C. and - 160 DEG C. Paraffin hydrocarbons may be present as diluents. The catalyst may be quenched by isopropyl alcohol. Curing of the product is effected with zinc oxide, stearic acid, sulphur and tetramethylthiuram disulphide at a temperature of 155 DEG C.
