Abstract
578,320. Accelerometers. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1944, No. 3001. Convention date, May 19, 1943. [Class 106 (iii)] In an instrument for indicating abnormal accelerations caused, for example, by an aircraft diving, the pointer for giving instantaneous; indications together with those giving positive and negative maximum indication's is actuated by a torque derived from the rectilinear movements of a mass transmitted by a flexible cable pulley system. The accelerometer mass 68 is suspended between guide rods 67 from an endless cable 62 passing round pulleys 60, 61 and driving a pulley 27 secured to a shaft 23 carrying the instantaneous indicator pointer 33, a coiled spring 52 tending to restore the shaft to neutral position. The maximum pointers 30, 31 are actuated by a lever 29 on shaft 23 engaging projections on discs 42, 42a, end winding springs 41, 41a, pawl and ratchet devices 43, 42, 43a, 42a serving to lock the pointers in their maximum positions. To reset the pointers 30, 31, the pilot rotates a knob, turning a lever 82 to strike an arm 84, thus releasing pawl 43, and simultaneously turning arm 85 to lift arm 90 so as to release pawl 43a. A spring claw is provided to hold the mass 68 against movement when desired..
